Those Facebook ads really work do they? I am in Facebook
all day most of the day and I’ve been seeing a few ad boxes in between posts in the timeline feed and there’s one that have always caught my eye mainly because of the purple color dominating most of the space. And the intriguing name too… Cafe Et La Dessert. Sounds like a fancy name for a pastry shop huh. I can’t help but be persuaded to visit the only branch of this cafe in Khurais Road. See? The Facebook ad totally worked. The Pink Tarha should sign up for one pronto. Or maybe after I finished writing this entry on Cafe Et Le Dessert.
Located in the Carrefour Mall in Khurais Road, Cafe Et Le Dessert is open for ladies only. Don’t de disappointed guys because once you see its inside, you’ll also feel out of place anyway. How can I say that? Well, the cafe, like its ad, is dominated by purple. Purple velvet couches and seats, satin purple walls, and even some of the lights. There were light posts in the middle of the cafe, imagine that. So it does really feel Parisian. The whole restaurant feels sophisticated and elegant. It has two effects on my friend and I when we visited: 1. it awed us that such a place exists; it’s truly regal and posh and 2. it made us feel inadequate to be there; it seems like a place frequented by Riyadh’s socialites (obviously not us). So maybe we’re not really the target market of this restaurant but we entered anyway because we traveled far to try it and we were hungry for the first meal of the day.
The breakfast menu is quite limited and we had to seek a waitress to interpret the menu for us. They also had to seek a waitress who can speak and understand English to better serve us. It took ages before they came to our table and they still had a hard time explaining the short breakfast menu for us. My friend, who knows Arabic better than I do (I have zero knowledge), got some of the dishes and ordered pancakes and an omelette that we can share. They said these were their bestsellers. We waited, and waited, and waited some more. Good thing my friend and I haven’t seen each other for quite a while so we entertained ourselves with stories. Otherwise, we would have complained that our orders took quite a while.
When they finally did, we were disappointed to see them. The presentation is not solid; like being done for the first time. It was simple. I guess they took that to the Parisian’s minimal and straightforward style. We first tried the pancakes smothered in Nutella with half of a strawberry on top. It’s a nice, sweet start to our day but it doesn’t have the wow factor we’re looking for in a pancake. It wasn’t fluffy enough and not yummy enough. We can’t say anything about the Nutella because it’s everyone’s favorite. Together, they’re a perfect combination but not enough flavor and taste to make this trip again.
The omelette with cheese is also ordinary. It looks a bit meager with the slices of bread and pieces of olives and cucumber slices. It’s what you can expect from an omelette with cheese.
The drink that we got is refreshing but not memorable. I couldn’t even remember what was in it apart from erhmn strawberry?
Anyway, my friend and I ate more than half of what we ordered, finished our drinks, paid our bill, and went out of the restaurant feeling unsatisfied. We didn’t feel welcome in the place and the food is quite expensive for the taste. We also didn’t like the slow service. I guess it’s really the ambiance that we paid for. Haha! It’s maybe just us so you can go and try it for yourself. We haven’t tried their regular menu so maybe that’s more delicious. The place is also good for occasions because you can ask them to decorate it with balloons and a beautiful table setting for your guests.
We’ve seen rave reviews of the place in Foursquare and Instagram so yeah… if you’re near the area then go ahead and try it. Tell us what you think.
