Nothing is more intriguing than the sound of a sizzling plate passing by in a restaurant. Diners would extend their looks toward the server and ask, “I wonder what they’re having?” Well, Applebee’s is serving up some new items on their menu and it is literally, HOT! Janelle and I visited the other day to find out what exactly all the “smoke” is about.
Our last visit to the revamped Applebee’s in Tahlia St. was a memorable one and we were eager to revisit some of the restaurants we enjoyed in the past (a series on that, soon!). So there we sat and got our dibs on their Sizzler’s menu. Apparently, they ran a survey of over 2,000 diners in the Middle East and it showed that Steaks topped the list (why am I not surprised?) so they’ve decided to present this crowd favorite in an exciting and crave-inducing kind of way.
Of course, we had to have our usual starter platters and salad along with the fancy drinks in huge goblets that Applebee’s is known for.
For drinks, I tried the Passion Smoothie – which had all kinds of fruit in it: kiwi, grapes, oranges, just to name a few of what I could remember. It was a bit heavy for me so I couldn’t quite finish it all. Credit to them tho, for really using real fruits in it. Meanwhile, Janelle had the Jamaica Freeze – despite being a shake, she didn’t find it heavy at all. It was light and fruity in flavors. Perfect for summer; more enjoyable if drank by the beach.
And now, it was time for the main courses.
Janelle ordered the Sizzling Cowboy Steak. It’s their top seller in the Sizzler’s menu and it was humongous! Clearly not meant to be eaten by one lady alone. Upon service, the waiter poured over the gravy unto the steak in the skillet and that sound and smell of a freshly grilled meat came to life.
The meat was cooked to perfection however, Janelle found the overall taste to be salty. When we consulted the staff about it later on, they explained that the beef itself has not been flavored and the saltiness may have come from the poured gravy. Now as a suggestion, you could have it on the side and pour it to your liking instead. That way, you can enjoy the dish better.
For myself, I had the Sizzling Chipotle Cream Steak and Shrimp. I loved how they cooked my steak and the creamy sauce went well with it. I also enjoyed the crispy southwestern potatoes and the black bean and corn salsa that was in the mix. Unfortunately, the shrimp was also on the salty side for me. Overall, my choice came across as vibrant and hearty.
Our friends ordered the other items on the menu like the Sizzling Jumbo Shrimp (which were true to its word, Jumbo!) and the Sizzling BBQ Salmon. If you’re into seafoods, you mustn’t miss these:
Even our desserts came in sizzling form! There was the Sizzling Apple Pie and Maple Butter Blondie (which I enjoyed!). Check out our Instagram for videos of it in all its sizzling glory. Here, you’ll see it untouched yet:
The Sizzler’s Menu is only at Applebee’s for a limited time so do check it out on your next night out. Sizzling plates are not for fajitas anymore. At least not in Applebee’s.
