Looking back, we don’t even know how we came up with the idea to do a bazaar and a Pink Tarha Mornings session in one. Oh right, wait. There was a food fair last year that was organized in one of the gyms in the city and we thought, we’d like to make one too. It’s quite obvious we’re foodies and we want an event that will feature food, food, food. So we got carried away in our ideas until we realized we didn’t have a venue that will accommodate a food fair. While we know of vendors, we’re not sure how to convince them. Also, there was a hidden concern for food poisoning. Seriously, we were worried that we’ll have a case of food poisoning and we won’t know how to solve it. Paranoid much. Haha!
We decided to limit the food fair and concentrate on food we like. Up above that list are desserts. Cakes, in particular. Because cakes are pretty and sweet and happy. Who doesn’t like cakes? And we threw in the makeup and cosmetics part to ensure that ladies would enjoy the event more. Sweets and beauty… what’s not to like? And that’s when Bake and Blush was born. We still have the problem with a big venue though but my batch mate from high school (can you imagine, HIGH SCHOOL?!? When was this?! Haha!) was working for a compound here in Riyadh and luck would have it that he’s reading The Pink Tarha and we soon got in touch so I can help him with their newsletter and he can help us with our events (thanks Paul!). So we have the event name and the venue… now what?
We need vendors (and we’re nervous no one would sign up, haha!). We contacted our friends who are homebakers and online cosmetic sellers. Apart from being friends with most of them, we have a soft spot for home businesses in Riyadh because we know that all products are guaranteed made with love. It’s easy to start a home business but it’s hard to sustain it especially when you’re a mother and a wife at the same time. Where do you insert the time to fulfill orders? We have so much respect for these ladies and it’s an honor for us that they signed up to become vendors for our event. We opened the registration for guests and participants soon after.
As you all know, The Pink Tarha Mornings is in it’s third year now and so far, our four ‘mornings’ were successful. We have given workshops on various topics like blogging, writing, photography, and personality development. In keeping with our baking and beauty theme for the Bake and Blush Fair, we decided to have workshops that would touch those categories. Good thing, Ms. Nadia Tariq of Bake Fresh volunteered to do a Cake Decorating Demo and Ms. Angel of G.A.P. Makeup Artistry was available for a Basic Makeup Class. Our event is taking shape and it’s looking good!
And so it happened last May 30, 2015… Here are some snippets of that awesome, fun day:
The workshop started around 10:00 in the morning:
We had lunch at around 11 and proceeded to the basic makeup class around 12:30 in the afternoon.
Introducing to you the vendors that participated in our event:
We remember Nadia as the first home baker that we featured in The Pink Tarha. It was in 2009 when she was first starting her baking business in Riyadh. We’re amazed at how far she’s gone in terms of her cake and cupcake business. We look at her blog and Facebook page with awe. She has truly made it as one of the go-to homebakers in Riyadh. She decorated her booth with colorful buntings and pompoms and her baked goodies look fab as well. I tried her red velvet cupcake and it tasted as good as I first tasted it. She also has vanilla balls that are moist and sweet and perfect for any occasion giveaway/souvenir. BAKE FRESH: Facebook | Website | 0565601805
Ms. Cecile Perez has also come a long way since one of our friends introduced her to us and from the time we met her in a ladies’ bazaar in Outback Restaurant. We tasted her cupcakes and I fell in love with the icing. No really, I usually hate the icing of cakes but hers was the kind that wasn’t too sweet and overpowering. That’s why her cupcakes are already ingrained in my mind. She also has a bubbly and happy personality that makes her endearing. She has expanded her home business to savory treats and my friend Jou was smitten with Dolce Cecilia’s turn-overs during the event. Her sister loved the cheese pimiento dip and I did too. My Cake Cravings
Odette Orozco is fairly new to the baking scene in Riyadh but that doesn’t mean her cakes look and taste like newbies too. We love how professional My Cake Cravings is, from the way inquiries are handled to the look and flavor of the cakes. She has introduced a streamlined way of ordering and choosing cake and icing flavors and her fondant decor are clean and spot on. We recently featured her in the blog and for a good reason. She continuously improves on her craft and there’s no doubt in our mind that she’ll be famously known in Riyadh as the cake queen with the perfect white cake and awesome filling flavors. Desserts in the Desert
We love how witty the name of this home business is. We also like how enthusiastic Amina Kamran is when it comes to baking and decorating her cakes. Her decorations look very fresh and striking. The colors of her cookie icing are so vibrant. I was hooked with her peanut butter balls which has a moist dark chocolate cake center covered with peanut butter icing. They go so well together, those chocolate and peanut butter! It’s her first time to join a bazaar and we’re glad that she trusted a Pink Tarha event to become her “baptism of
fire sugar” haha! DESSERTS IN THE DESERT: Facebook | Instagram | 0536197791
Two Tablespoons Sugar
How cute is that name? And Nabaa Afridi is one pretty young lady who is venturing into the baking field for the first time. It was also her first time to join a bazaar and show people what she can do with her oven, mixer, and heaps of flour and sugar. She knows her way to chocolatey goodness; I can assure you that because her chocolate cake is one of my favorite finds in the bazaar. And get this, she has a Ferrero Rocher cake that has a Ferrero on top but only SR 10 in price! Affordable right? While pretty new in the baking business, I’m sure Two Tablespoons Sugar will become a hit in the market soon enough. TWO TABLESPOONS SUGAR: Facebook | Instagram | 0501754713
We love how these bakers brought their A game and decorated their tables with how they see and envision their homes businesses. They have distinct personalities and distinct styles. Even their products have distinct taste and flavors that it was so fun trying one product from another. I was happy just table hopping and sampling their goods. Haha! Can you imagine the sugar rush?!? We had a water dispenser that stood nearby haha.
We also introduced a contest among the bakers: Who Takes The Cake? Bake-Off where they will submit a cake that is within our theme. They’re free to select the flavors and they’re absolutely free to use their creativity in doing their cakes.
And the winner is…
If only we can preserve the cakes as is and display it in our desks, we will! Haha! But alas, no one can resist to taste the cakes. I get to take home most of them and I had days to enjoy me (luckiest ever, haha!). Congratulations to all our participants and winner!
Moving on to our beauty and skin products stalls:
I love Irene’s sweet personality when I first met her when I ordered my first Lime Crime Velvetine. When I saw her, it was no wonder she’s into beauty stuff! She’s beautiful inside and out! She’s been very helpful; dishing out tips and suggestions on what beauty products and swatches work best on one’s skin. At first, most of her stuff are pre-ordered but through the months that she’s been working hard to bring makeup brands that are not easily found in Riyadh, she has amassed a collection that are available immediately. She also delivers (well, her supportive husband does, haha). IRENE’S CLOSET: Facebook | Instagram | 0531122562
Lakme in Riyadh
Tahani Jawed is one sweet lady who’s been following the blog for quite some time. Her Facebook store carries Lakme, a popular brand of cosmetics in India. It’s considered as one of the most trusted brands in India and because of its popularity, Lakme Beauty Salons has sprouted all over the country. The products are super affordable too. I wanted the CC cream that sells for SR 25 each but she ran out of it fast! Wow! A very kind seller that offers a bestselling brand? Now that’s a combination for success! LAKME: Facebook | 0541856750
When Nabillah Farooq asked for an electrical outlet near her table for a skin analysis machine that was when it sunk in how huge a deal this event is going to be. Imagine having a free skin analysis machine with her highly-recommended products? At first, I wasn’t aware of the brand she carries but Nabillah is very knowledgeable and easy to talk with. She explained to me what the Nutrilite and Artistry lines are. When combined together, these products work on the skin inside and outside. She’s got a pretty good following now and if you’re interested, she can even bring the skin analysis machine to you and recommend the best products that will work on your skin type. Pure Body KSA
We’ve discovered Pure Body in our visit to Candles and Chalk a few months ago and we’ve fallen in love with their soaps instantly! So it was the perfect time to meet the woman behind these amazing organic products… Heather DeBra. She’s very passionate in making the soaps and body butters and scrubs from the very best ingredients. I was tempted to get another piece of the Patchouli soap I reviewed here but they were currently out of stock. I went for the intriguing Boobie Balm as recommended by Heather’s friend Mandi who is also a fellow blogger (Under The Abaya). I even got a free heart soap! I’m currently using the Pure Body facial soap too. PURE BODY KSA: Facebook | Instagram | 0556267544
There were so much to learn from these gorgeous, kind-hearted ladies who are into products that make women like us beautiful and confident. We were so proud that they joined our event even if it was our first time to do so. Thank you for the trust, ladies!
Thank you to our guests and participants! You ladies (and your kids) are AWESOME! Thank you to our sponsors The Pink Box Riyadh and Terra Eclat for providing us with raffle. Thank you to Crystal Restaurant for providing us with the food and venue for lunch. And thank you to Star Compound and the Villas Rosas Company staff who have been friendly, welcoming, and gracious to host our event. Without all the help and support we got for this event, we couldn’t have made this into reality.
And of course, thank you to our friends Jel (Shoegarfreeruby), Jamila, Jou (our photographer), and Chynna for being our “events team”.
We thank God for these opportunities and blessings. To Him all the glory!
