We received the tip on a coffee shop only for women from a follower in Twitter (shout out to @rbnrcks6, thank you!). We were intrigued but I must admit I did not take it to seriously go there during their opening week. It was only when Starbucks shooed us away because they were closing for the 8pm prayer during Ramadan that we walked a bit and found refuge in the Feminine Cafe at Oruba Street. At first, we were afraid of ringing the bell. The place looks intimidatingly posh outside, haha. But it’s a good thing we rang that bell because we were treated to the coffee shop of our dreams! (My dreams, according to my friends, because the interior design? It was so me. It’s my ‘personality’.)
Just by its Cath Kidston-ish interiors, you can already see that this cafe is really intended for ladies only. The dining area is wide and bright and filled with nice, lovely floral designs. The pastel-hued chairs and walls create a soft ambiance where we ladies and our friends can meet and converse non-stop. There were sofa sets covered in mismatched fabrics and leather; it’s like inviting yourself to your own living room. Haha! Simple design touches like bouquets of plastic flowers and little figurines are well-thought off. There’s even a bag stand for your expensive, what else, bags.
The coffee shop was fairly new when we visited that’s why their cake and pastry display was almost empty and the staff were still readying themselves for a night of work. No worries though because we enjoyed absorbing the beauty of the place. We felt glad that there’s something like this in Riyadh.
While we did not go there for dinner (we just ate in Tokyo Restaurant before coming to Feminine Cafe), their beverage list was full and interesting. We settled with milk shakes with Kit Kat, Snickers, and Toffee Lady Latte. I had an Iced Coffee that has a swig of mint ergo the light blue layer and the mint leaves. We weren’t really expecting a lot from their beverages because we were thinking it’s one of those coffee shops that you pay for the ambiance more than the food and drinks but we were surprised that our orders were good! We enjoyed them. I really like my mint latte; it’s has a very refreshing taste that perked me up. My friends enjoyed their creamy and sweet milk shakes too.
They have salads and sandwiches for the hungry. Other than that, Feminine Cafe is best for coffee and desserts. Also, they have a function room which you can probably rent for a night of celebration with the girls. I’m thinking of bridal or baby shower! Haha.
It’s nice to know that we ladies have a beautiful cafe in Riyadh that we can escape to when we’re bummed about men, work, men, career, men or just life in general. Haha! It’s a place we can avoid men because, hey, for the first time in the history of coffee shops in Riyadh, men are not allowed inside YES! Haha! Kidding aside, the Feminine Cafe is a great place to enjoy “me” time or “girl friends time”.
