In the Company of Coffee and Tea

Are you a coffee or a tea person? Why don’t you try and discover the answer to that lifelong question in El Dorado Coffee and Tea Co. in Exit 5? Again, I just have to say that I am getting envious with people living in and near Exit 5. They have an easier access to what is being known as the “Food Mile” a street near the roundabout if you’re heading to Kingdom Hospital that has a lot of new restaurants. I swear all the good restaurants we know and love like Sushi Yoshi, Nino, Johnny Rockets, etc. have branches there and some new ones are sprouting in that side of the street. How awesome is that? And how sad is that for us living in the city center? Haha.

Anyway, back to El Dorado Coffee and Tea Co. It’s one of the newest coffee shops that opened in Exit 5. Thank goodness that Gloria Jeans was full last week (I had dinner with friends and went for coffee afterwards) and we decided to try El Dorado. We did not only find new ways to enjoy coffee and savor new flavors of tea… we also found a very good red velvet muffin.

Speaking of commenting in El Dorado’s Instagram, let me just say that their Instagram is so enticing! If you see and browse it, you don’t even need to read this entry for you to be intrigued and urged to visit the coffee shop. The photos of their drinks and pastries are so beautiful; a curation of the delicious and refreshing things in life. The names of their drinks are beckoning me to order them! Coconut Grass Skirt? Hibiscus Sunrise? The Brown Cow? Strawberry Coast? It’s like a vacation outside Saudi Arabia already! Haha!

When I finally dragged myself to the second floor where there family section is, I wanted to live there! Haha! Their tables and chairs look very much like a living room where everything is homey and comfy. The only downside is the family section is small and only houses 5-6 sets of tables and chairs that are so inviting. What will happen when people just want to chill and lounge around for a long time? Where will the other customers go? Haha! The sofas are neutral in their brown and forest green huess but punctuated with pillows that are attractive in their jewel colors. Their shelves are filled with teas from Tea Xotics.

You have to wait for a while for my review on drinks and dessert because I want to talk about Tea Xotics. I fell in love with the packaging and names of their loose leaf. Tea Xotics is a family-owned specialty coffee roaster and loose leaf tea company in El Dorado Hills, California. Their coffee is roasted through traditional handcrafted methods and their premium loose leaf collections are hand blended and designed in house. The Tea Xotics line has arrived in Riyadh and you can get them from El Dorado Cafe! Fancy a cup of Bengal Peach? Cinnamon Girl? Blueberry Moon? Jungle Monkey? Moondance? Sweet Dreams? Adorable names for their various herbal blends!

I'm into peach flavor now; I might try the Bengal Peach soon.

Since I was intrigued by their tea, I ordered the Matcha Mint Cooler. My friends ordered the El Dorado Coffee and Mocha. My drink came in a mason jar (less the handle). It’s simply iced green tea with mint. It’s so refreshing but needed more sugar haha! I can taste the bitterness of the green tea but it was well-balanced by the cool mint. I asked for more ice because I love iced drinks. My friends described their drinks as delicious and interesting.

The waiter handed as an ipad for their selections of desserts. There were pictures of muffins, cakes, and cookies there and all we need to do is point and ask what it is. We ordered the chocolate fondant, as suggested by the waiter, and the red velvet cheese muffin which caught my attention. Everything was delivered in our table at once. We tasted them with gusto. The chocolate cake was the usual. It’s gooey and chocolatey. We all fell in love with the red velvet. It was moist, warm and soft. It was sweet and the cheese lent a slight saltiness to it making it really yummy! If we had more time (it was getting really late), I would have ordered a second one.

Their hot teas come in a tea pot and a tea timer. It’s such a delicate and fancy way to drink tea but oh well, seize the day (or night) and enjoy your tea right? If you’re like me who’s not into hot drinks, then they have chilled and blended coffee drinks and smoothies too. I’m most interested in the iced (as in ice cubes) tea blends. Ahhh next time! If it’s not too far from the city center, El Dorado Coffee and Tea Co. would have been my favorite coffee shop today. I want to visit every day. But alas, it’s in Exit 5! Or far, far away in my vocabulary. OA. Haha!

After you visit, let me know if you’re 100% sure that you’re a coffee or a tea person. I discovered I’m a 50% iced coffee and 50% iced tea person. Haha!

P.S. Don’t mistake it for the El Dorado Cafe along Makkah Road. They’re different companies.
