Global Customer Appreciation Week 2015

Last Wednesday, Marriott Hotels Riyadh held their annual Global Customer Appreciation Week and we were invited for a short cocktail event along with other media affiliates. Every year, Marriott Hotels all over the world dedicate a week out of the year to basically say “Thank You!” to their loyal clientele and pays it forward with various forms of community service. In Riyadh, they celebrated with a generous gathering of their guests, partners and colleagues in the Najd Ballroom and it was one energetic evening. It’s always fun for me to go to Marriott’s events because they have an extensive network of media contacts and more often than not, we get to meet new people in the business. Sometimes also, we see some of the regular invitees from the press and have formed a camaraderie amongst them, sitting together at the same dining table whenever we catch each other in these kinds of events.

The gathering started to come alive at around past 7 pm. I was surprised at how many people turned up for the event! Normally, I wouldn’t expect so many people to arrive at these sorts of things but it became packed in no time and the cocktail hour was in full swing a few minutes later.

The buffet tables were hosting Arabic, Mediterranean, Italian and Japanese food and there were two other tables for cheese and desserts. But wait, I thought this was supposed to be a cocktail party? There was so much food around that it could easily have been served as dinner to all. Even though there were just standing tables within the room, people still managed to get stuffed while standing up. I say indeed, nothing gets in the way of having good food. (I wasn’t able to get a photo of the Pasta Station because it was crowded!).

As everyone was finally fed and were mingling with the rest of the crowd, Marirott Executives and General Manager Mr. Muin Serhan delivered a short message in honor of this year’s Global Customers Appreciation Week. They thanked their corporate clients for their loyalty and trust to the Marriott Brand. A raffle draw of gift certificates and gift items were done later into the evening. I didn’t win but was happy that my friend Jou did (a complimentary lunch for two at Marriott).
