So a few weeks ago, someone commented on our Facebook page that we should stop featuring burger restaurants in the blog because it seems like it’s all we ever write about. Because I’m older now, I have less patience to explain ourselves. Forgive me if you’re one of our readers who received a testy reply from me but that’s either you didn’t read the status/link first before asking or you’re comment is snarky and demanding to begin with. Haha, I kid, I kid. Writing in the blog and updating our social media accounts have helped me become patient and understanding over the years. Naks! But it has been YEARS, our patience also wears thin and sometimes, it is annoying to reply to questions that are answerable by the status itself. It’s highly irritating too to receive demanding comments, so yes thank you very much haha.
Anyway, that comment made me look back at the entries we wrote and I found out that yes, we have a lot of burger restaurant reviews and features but we also have a lot of steak houses and Italian restaurants in here. Who can blame us for featuring burger places when Riyadh’s international food landscape has like 40% burger, 20% steak houses, 15% Chinese, 15% Italian and 10% others? Okay, that’s not real statistics. That’s just our estimate. Haha! So why don’t I put more fuel to fire by featuring another burger place? (I’m expecting everyone to gasp and exclaim, “burgers again?!?”)
No, not just burgers but also shawarma and a fillet steak sandwich. These are the offerings of Grill It, a food joint that specializes in these sandwiches. Most of the time, the quality of one’s sandwiches depends on the source of their ingredients. Grill It has no problem in that area as it’s backed up by Forsan Groceria, one of the best sources of meats for barbecuing and grilling in Riyadh. As a matter of fact, there’s one beside the Grill It branch in Exit 7 near Imam University. You might be asking why buy from Grill It when you can DIY your burgers and sandwiches? Well, what if you’re lazy to cook like me? Haha! Or you just want a quick fix to tide your hunger over. Then these are the moments you’ll be thankful that fast food joints like Grill It is here in the city.
Grill It has only a bachelor section in their branches; ladies can only order for take out. We tried their Cheeseburger, Chicken Shawarma, Beef Shawarma, and their latest offering, their Fillet Steak Sandwich.
There’s nothing too surprising about their burgers. There’s no WOW factor. It’s just your dependable burger that just has the right amount of ingredients: a not-so-soft bun, a beefy burger patty, a melted cheese and some lettuce, tomato, and pickle. It’s just okay, nothing complicated. It seems like a back to basics kind of burger that has its no-fuss flavors down pat. Their French fries are the same, it’s pretty normal and there’s nothing that sets it apart from the fries we’ve had before.
The Chicken Shawarma is the revelation for me here. It’s really good and delicious! I’m surprised actually to find it so tasty despite of its small size. The Lamb or Beef Shawarma is good but not as good as the chicken variety. It can taste a slight sourness. Maybe it’s just me but still, I didn’t like it as much as the chicken.
The recently-launched Fillet Steak Sandwich is really good. The long bun they used is soft but it got a bit soggy in the end. The steak pieces were really good. It was tender; my teeth sunk into it easily and it was really juicy. If you’re tired of the burgers and shawarma, then go for the steak sandwich.
I’ll keep this feature short because someone might comment that we’re focusing too much on burgers again, haha! No kidding, the menu of Grill It is short and they just have a few items but they have decent food that are filling and delicious. However, their branches are a bit far from the city center and I’m not sure when I will be back because it’s not something I will go the distance for. If you’re in that area though then go ahead and try it.
