The month of May will be a “foundation month” for my Beauty Bets articles. I acquired quite a stash of drugstore foundations weeks ago and I’m inclined to write about them because I’m on a foundation binge and that’s all I’m going to talk about for the rest of this merry month. I realized how important finding the right foundation is. A blush or a lipstick can come in any color and we can make it work but if you get the wrong foundation, it’s pretty much hopeless for your look of the day no matter how much contouring and highlighting you put. Foundation makes the face a perfect canvas so the other makeup can work their magic. So foundation, my girl friends, is VERY important.
For today I’ll be talking about the Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Mattifying Hydrating Foundation. You all Beauty Bets-reading folks know that my favorite foundation is Maybelline’s Fit Me! and I have raved about it here. I still love it but I decided to try this Dream Velvet one because I want to try a different formula. The Dream Velvet is a gel-whipped foundation that comes in a tube. It promises a velvety, soft-matte finish while hydrating the skin for 12 hours. Please remember that my skin is combination: my T-zone gets really oily throughout the day but I have patches on my cheeks that are dry that it almost looks like they’re always nagbabalat (flaky). So I thought this hydrating formula will help in that.
This foundation comes in a tube which I like because it’s easy to push the product out to the back of my hand. I used Real Techniques’ Expert Face Brush, an ultra firm brush, to put this in my face. It glided really well, making application easy. It has a nice light fluffy texture to it with a mousse consistency. It mattified my skin and made it look flawless… at first. By noontime I checked in our mirror in the workplace and I noticed that the foundation has broken up and that it’s already showing my huge pores. It’s slightly cakey and I can see the foundation sitting on my pores as clear as day! I don’t usually retouch my makeup when I’m testing a foundation for the first time and this one didn’t last the entire day. It looked patchy in the dry areas of my face. It didn’t make my face look fresh. Haha! However, it’s not too bad. The inconsistencies can only be clearly seen when the person looking at my face is too close, like a couple of inches close. I also like that the shade, Natural Beige, I picked up is just right for me.
I’m not sure if I’m recommending it to those with dry skin because it’s supposedly hydrating which makes it the best choice for them but seeing how it highlighted my dry patches, hmnnnn. I’m sure there are better foundation for you ladies out there. So good for you, I’ll be talking about foundation for the entire month in my Beauty Bets. Haha! Stay tuned! 😉
