Ramadan Style Essentials From Wadi

Ramadan may be a month of modesty, but it is also a month full of social gatherings with daily Iftar and Suhoor invitations from one family/friend to another. Such gatherings are a big part of the Ramadan culture and women, especially, specifically dress for the occasion. That is why, through the recent years, fashion designers (both local and international) release various collections in honor of the season. So what exactly are the Ramadan style essentials for the lovely Muslimahs? We’ve narrowed it down to the following:

1. Kaftans
Long and flowly dresses like the kaftan are the definite must-have piece of the season. Light fabrics are preferred especially in this summer heat but designs can vary from being printed, beaded or embroidered. Kaftans are quite the popular choice among women because it still maintains the conservative aspect necessary in the holy month while allowing the opportunity to be fashionable and elegant at the same time. This royal blue kaftan from Aava Gold S Rays Eye with its intricate embellishments says just that!

2. High Heels
I know some ladies may disagree with me on this, but considering the number of formal occasions this Ramadan, I can’t say that I’d really encourage wearing sneakers or flats. Mainly because of the formal social gatherings at say palaces or hotels, the use of high heels will match the affair at hand. There are many to choose from but the rule of thumb is that it should compliment your dress (and that it’s comfortable enough for you to survive the evening in). These nude studded pumps from Truffle are versatile and just screams “high-fashion” all the way.

3. Accessories
One may keep their abayas on and rely on the power of accessories to style up their look. The key is: less is more. If you’re sporting a fairly long, solid-color tunic then you can break the long lines with a statement necklace. If you’re into adding more bling into your look, then perhaps these bangles from ZeroKaata or chandelier earrings from Jhumki will do the trick.

4. Handbag or Clutch
An ensemble wouldn’t be complete without a handbag or purse. Where else can you put all your lady items in when dining out? Keeping it classy is always a nice touch and avoid carrying everything but the kitchen sink around with you especially at formal gatherings. Some would say to match your bag with your shoes and we think that this beige Elliez Tote for women will go great with our studded pumps, as previously mentioned.

5. The Aromatics
Scents and perfumes are a huge part of Arabic tradition and if anything, it makes the most impression on others during social gatherings. Since the events are happening at night, it’s best to choose muskier and stronger aromas for a more arresting impact (which I have noticed to be true in many engagements). Try Gucci Flora by Women which goes well with these hot Arabian nights.

Apart from the perfumes, we shouldn’t forget how important the Oud is this season. Oud is an alternative name to the tree called, “Agarwood” and in Saudi Arabia, oud is used in homes and gatherings as incense and helps set the ambiance of any event. It is traditionally believed that burning oud will help ward off evil spirits and allow those in the space to be safe. Complete your Ramadan event with one of the popular selections of Arabian Oud.

You’d see a blossoming of events for fashion shows to boutique offerings related to Ramadan just before the season starts. But of course, you can enjoy the same browsing experience at the comforts of your own home or even through your mobile phone thanks to the online shopping website Wadi.com where all of the items we featured above can be found. Wadi sells electronics, fashion apparel, beauty and health products, jewellery, and watches. They also offer authentic products in competitive prices, if not the cheaper options available on the net. We’ve tried Wadi before and they deliver on time and their customer service is friendly and attentive. You know how inconvenient it is to shop outside these days right? Super traffic and really busy roads, crowded malls, and hot weather! So what better way but shop online! You know you want to! 😉

    Hi, Janelle!
I am Erica, I am from Brazil.
I would like to know more about the relation of Arabian people and the semi precious jewellery.
I have a friend who told me that people from Saudi Arabia prefer wear semi precious jewerly for daily life and wear real gold peaces for more formal occasions, because semi precious jewellery are cheaper and also lighter than 24k gold peaces.
    Is that true ?
By the way, I loved your blog.

    Congratulations.

Hi Erica, yes, that’s true. For every day wear, not a lot wear real gold jewelries. These are reserved for more formal events and also important occasions like weddings and eid.
