Can you believe how time has flown so fast? It’s already October! It’s the new year in the Hijri calendar and it’ll be the new year in the Gregorian calendar in three months! Wow! As you all probably know and feel, time’s a-changin’ here in Saudi Arabia (and in the Philippines too), we can’t feel that we’ve matured faster than we ever did in the past few years haha! Anyway, we still have out TPT Tuesday series you guys. I mean we’ve probably forgotten about it for a few weeks, er, months, but we’re still trying to keep up with it. Hopefully we remember it every Tuesday, yannow? Now that we’re done with September, we discovered a lot of things and stuff and whatevers that made it to our favorite list. I didn’t know we had that until I wrote our September Faves in our new blog, Beauty Bets. Please follow and read that too. It has all things pretty and beautiful! Anyway, we decided to list down our favorites of September. It will range to food, stores, lifestyle items, news stories… it will be anything under the sun that made us happy. (We’re excluding our trip to Morocco here because you all know we’ll have that covered in our travel entries soon.) That’s it. Haha! Let’s get into it shall we?
1. September Events in Riyadh
It’s not like Riyadh is the perfect (and easy) place to hold events that’s why we commend every organizer that staged events for the month of September. We enjoyed The Gathering and iLuminate so much! It’s just sad that we read negative comments about these events. Sure people can just give feedback and opinions, it’s allowed. It’s your freedom of expression. For us, no matter what the turn-out of these events were, we’re still happy that people gave so much time and effort to make these events happen here in Riyadh. We, spectators, don’t know how much hardship these organizers went through (and knowing Riyadh’s processes uhuhhhh) just to stage these events and we should at least show appreciation that they made it happen. It’s not easy to make these public events.
The Gathering is an event that resembles a bazaar to us Filipinos. It’s just fun to be among the locals and among shop owners who are passionate at what they are doing and selling. True, we also find products being sold at The Gathering expensive but we are not being forced to buy. There are a lot of aspects to be improved (like have spaces to eat please) but that’s why they’re staging these every year so that they can improve on it and make it better as years go by.
As for iLuminate, we enjoyed it. The kids who were with us enjoyed it and they were really happy. That’s what that matters to us. People who do not understand the concept of iLuminate should probably research first before buying tickets and complaining about how loud the music or how dark the theater is (uhmn). Also, we understand how crowd can become rowdy at times but the only thing we did not like about some people watching iLuminate was when they use their phone’s flash from time to time. We love the energy of the crowd we were with and yes, feel free to dance in your seats or at least sway with the music. You can still get tickets for this event via www.ticketmasterksa.com. We’re glad that events like these are coming and happening to Riyadh. More please! Let’s give these events a chance, people! Yalla, let’s go!
2. Kindle Paperwhite (+ Cath Kidston Kindle Cover)
Call me shallow but I love this cover. (And this has led me to remember that I need to write about the Kindle Paperwhite, haha!) It’s sooo me with the colorful print of books and I’m not surprised that this is what my friend Jou got me from her trip to London. I couldn’t be happier! Until she gave me my Sleek Highlighting Palette in Solstice, haha. Anyway, I’ve had my Kindle for a while now and I love reading books on it. For years, I’ve been dedicated to printed books and I even swore I wouldn’t read ebooks but practicality got into me and I ate my words. My friends gave me the Kindle Paperwhite on my wedding day as a gift for a bridal shower that didn’t take place. I’ve read a lot of books on it already (even finishing my 2016 Book Challenge over at Goodreads) because it’s so easy to use. I can read even when I’m lying down at night because it has built-in light and it’s adjustable. I’m only writing about this now because the past few months have been a bit busy and I haven’t find the time to read but my love for reading got renewed when I received the new cover last September. And so, my Kindle became a favorite of mine again. Hmn, not that it ever went away but you know what I mean.
3. Fiz Bottles
I’ve been in love with my Fiz Bottle for a while now. I love iced and cold drinks and if I can have ice cubes with me wherever I go, I’ll thank the world for that invention. So here’s the easy solution to my craving of cold drinks: Fiz Bottles! They keep cold drinks cold for 24 hours and hot drinks hot for 12 hours! I discovered the bottles in Tamimi and I got their 500 mL bottle with a monochrome print. They also have smaller bottles that come in solid, vibrant colors. They’re made of double wall stainless steel. So I was so in love with my bottle that I left a comment in Fiz World’s Instagram. Matt Buck of Fiz World replied to me and ask me if I have any feedback about their product and I emailed him a couple of my feedback after a week of using my Fiz Bottle. He thanked me for it and said that he’ll send me some of their new bottles when they already have it. I didn’t think much of it until this September when he emailed me again and said that he sent some stuff. It’s a pleasant surprise. I received their new 750 mL bottle, their new tumbler, and their Ogre bottle that has a handle. Oh you bet I love them all like my first Fiz bottle! They’re perfect for every day use and for picnics and road trips. Now I don’t have to worry about bringing cold drinks with me all the time. But since I drink them really fast, I need an ice cube maker on-the-go next! Lol.
4. The Return of TV Shows
One of my must-do’s during my ME-time on the weekends is bingeing on my favorite TV shows. One good thing about September is that it’s the Fall Return of shows that went on break and new seasons begin where they left off. I for one, am a HUGE fan of Grey’s Anatomy since college and I haven’t missed a beat. Season 13 started last September 22 along with another famous show called Empire (snap, I want to imbibe some Cookie Lyon swag!). Some of my other favorite shows are The Voice (US) and I am so happy about Alicia Keys being a part of the panel now and promoting no-make-up look for TV. If you think about it though, if you do sit her beside the ultra-flamboyant Miley Cyrus, then there’s enough color and decor to go around. New shows to watch out for as I read are Mr. Robot and the reboot of the classic “MacGyver”. Unfortunately, Game of Thrones isn’t until 2017, so yeah. Most of these shows air on OSN cable on specific days and time.
5. Change of Weather
Winter is coming and I love it! Finally the breeze has cooled around us and the harsh heat has finally started to drift away from our hemisphere. I am a big fan of fall/autumn because it’s that comme ci, comme ca of seasons where it’s not too cold for you to freeze to death but also no longer hot enough to burn your skin alive. Also, because of the fashion that we’re allowed to sport during this time is comfy and snuggy. Start shaping your wardrobe to match the vibe and air out your cardigans, sweaters, boots and coats. I love going to Accessorize and Aldo Accessories to look out for statement pieces for fall season, like a pair of gloves, scarves and a beret. Although, do stock up on lots of Vitamin C and make sure you got your flu shots because this is also the season where coughs and colds are amidst.
