About

The Pink Tarha is the product of the jubilant exclamation points (and tears of joy) of girls high from a shopping spree. Seriously. So what's so extraordinary in stories told by girls who go gaga over fashion and sale seasons? The place where it all happens!

The Pink Tarha is a blog of four Filipinas living and working in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia... arguably one of the most conservative countries in the world. We are making the best of our stay here and we're sharing the nitty gritty details in a fun, funny way. We talk about anything under the sun and when we do, we use copious amount of sun block (the best advice ever!) and face cream because we talk a lot and for a long time. See? It's been over two years of talking now.

What began in January 2009 as this:

The Beginning, 2009

Became this in 2010:

The Quarter-Life Crisis, 2010

In 2011, another metamorphosis:

The Life Begins at 20-Something Something, 2011

And for 2012, say hello to a new blog design (again):

The blog layout is a little bit on the mature side now: clean, sleek, and less cluttered. We also made the photos huge so we can entice you more, especially with our food and travel photos. Haha. We incorporated the Kingdom Tower and the Faisaliah Tower in our header. Of course, what better way to symbolize Riyadh, right? :)

We're still churning light-hearted, witty, optimistic posts well into 2011 and beyond. We've done a lot of crazy things for the blog... ordinary things if we're in Manila but extraordinarily mad because we're in Riyadh. Sometimes we wonder if we're really crazy it's really worth it and the answer is a resounding YES! always (or a "No" at first but a "Yes" after we've eaten or shopped, lol). Not all people are given this chance and when it comes to chance, the Pink Tarha always grabs it (yannow, like the stuff on sale: just grab and sort later!).

So okay, we know how you view Saudi Arabia. It's probably the least country you'll ever want to be in (except Iraq maybe because it's illegal for Filipinos to be there) because of the major differences in culture, tradition, and religion. We leave you with your opinions. But give it - and us - the benefit of the doubt. At least read our perspective. We'll make you laugh,  promise! It's not all that bad. See the silver lining (even if clouds rarely appear on the desert sky).

If you decide to journey with us, then we want you to remember the following: For those who are already in Saudi Arabia, "If you don't like how things are going, then change them. If you can't change them, change the way you think about them." For those who are going to Saudi Arabia, "One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things." For everyone, "Do something NEW or something that scares you every day!"

So whaddya say, join us in this journey! We'll bring the sodas, the chips, and the sense of humor. :)

PS. The tarha is a colloquial term used by Filipinos to refer to the black veil known as hijab. It is used with the abaya, the black outer garment worn by women in Saudi Arabia in public.

Hi ladies! Thanks for such a lovely blog site! I am also a Filipina - about to live in Riyadh to be with the hubby come September. Western compounds have been quite full, the most possible waitlist my husband can get is at Al Romaizan. We were wanting Seder but slots for a 2br or 3br are just tight. Hope when we finally get there after the waitlist gets through, my kids and I get to enjoy Riyadh the way you do!

Hi, I genuinely consider finding your blog a blessing because in a few days I'm off to KSA for the first time and kinda nervous! I've only seen a few posts and my impression was "Ah... pwede pala sa Saudi yun!" or "Bakit parang ang saya naman nila?". Yeah, too much negativity runs through my veins so I'll be reading the rest of your blog right after this comment for me to have a better understanding of "our" workplace. Thank you for making this blog.
