Ahhhh, the high fashion of Riyadh is in the air again. In this year’s Riyadh Fashion Days Autumn/Winter14, I was able to take a look at the latest collections by designers in the region but missing from the usual flair and pizzzazz was the allure and intensity of a catwalk. Instead, RFD AW14 only showcased the collections in an array of post-modern racks with a hint of feminine flair. Rows of designer clothing floated amidst the halls of Maison B-Om, the steadfast host of the Riyadh’s fashion scene. It was a night to meet and greet the creative minds behind the works on display and get a whiff of what the seasons mean for them. I sashayed in and out of the racks taking photos of possibly fabulous finds (and I did see several) and enjoyed the company of fashionable women.
The room was well-decorated with the usual florals and mannequins adorned in carefully crafted couture. The jewelry section glistened under the glass cases and neon lights. However, the one major thing that caught my eye and which, I believed, tied everything together for me was the sophisticated calligraphy done to mark each designer’s rack. My real job makes a big deal out of typography, so I could be biased with my observation. Nevertheless, it was a very nice touch — visual-wise. Today will be the first part of my RFD AW14 coverage which will feature mostly the dress/garment collections.
Now, I am not sure I can list down all the designers who participated in the event, but I will try with the photos I was able to take during the show. Most of them are on Instagram, so if you see something you like, go on ahead and follow them in their account. Even better, is if you can actually go and purchase one of their creations. 🙂
For some colored collections and less formal than most, we have:
Get cozy in these lush, robe garments from various designers (and take note of their Instagram accounts). Perfect for the cold, winter season ahead.
What would Riyadh’s fashion scene be without the luxury abayas? Here are just a few who participated in the show:
For now, that will conclude the first part of my RFD AW14 coverage. On Wednesday, I’m going to feature the accessories and jewelries that were included in the show. For now, get busy instagramming these wonderful designers! And don’t forget to follow us too. 😉 @thepinktarha
