I was the type of kid that went to an amusement park and didn’t get amused with the rides. I was a scaredy cat back then and it didn’t help that I have brothers who were teasing us all the time to ride the scary looking roller coaster and log jams (the ride that usually gets you wet as soon as you take the plunge). So I was always the girl who goes straight to the arcade and concession stands. I fell in love with cotton candy and corn dogs. At the same time, I also grew adept at Time Crisis and I eventually ended up partnering with my sibs in this game.
In an family entertainment center, it’s not always the rides that are thrilling. Some of us, especially adults who are just accompanying children, get small thrills from discovering what food we can eat while going around and what token machine we can play and can win tickets with so that at the end of the day, we can pool our tickets and get a worthy prize for everyone. Even services that we didn’t think would be readily available to us makes going to entertainment centers such a fun adventure with the family! Toy Town, which we have been featuring for the last couple of weeks have endeared me to their simple yet effective layout. Here are some wonderful surprises we discovered in Toy Town:
1. Barber Shop
One of the highlights of Toy Town is this cute little barber shop that can be found inside the amusement center. Here’s where you can bring your tots to have a hopefully stress-free, tear-free haircut. Kids can get their hair cut for as low as SR 15 for boys and SR 25 for girls! I’ve always thought that a kid’s haircut in Riyadh is expensive but in Toy Town, it’s pretty much affordable. They have the friendliest barbers! Our cute kiddo friends Jezzli and Jay-C were all game to sit and try the skill of the master cutters. They made the kids comfortable and assure them that the cut and styling would be easy and fast. And they delivered well in their promises. They gave Jezzli a cute trim that matched the shape of her face and they put a dollop of hair cream on Jay-C to set it with a nice style. He’s cuter with this change of hair style!
For the younger ones who are not used to sitting down and would probably squeal and squirm their way out of their high barber chairs, the barbers employ all means to keep the children occupied and happy. Toys and monitors showing cartoons are in the counter and the barber shop itself is colorful and vibrant. Patience is the key to a child’s haircut and the barbers at Toy Town sure has a lot of them.
With the amusement center so lively and fun already, your children won’t have time to fuss over their hair cut and would probably sit still just so the haircut finish early and they can go back to the rides and games waiting for them (unless of course they throw a tantrum for not being able to play haha!). You can always bribe your kids to sit still with lollipops, candies and more toys anyway! Haha!
2. Food Kiosks and Stands
Is it even surprising that I talk about the food kiosks next? Haha! It’s a given that kids will eventually get hungry and thirsty in between running and playing and riding so it’s a good thing that Toy Town has concession stands for fresh, buttery corn, Cone Zone ice cream, pop corn, cotton candy, small Turkish delights, and candies. They’re all what an amusement park aims to offer! If you need to make your kids more hyper, then the sugar rush they can get on these food kiosks is all you need to keep them occupied and happy.
If the kids are still hungry after all the activities, then you can take them to the nearby food court. One of the great things about Toy Town is their location in Sahara Mall. They’re so near the food court, the food choices are endless. Visiting Toy Town here is like hitting two birds with one stone. What more can you ask for? Ooohh do I hear more games?
3. Arcade Section
More games you yell? Then you get more games! Reina already mentioned that Toy Town has a bunch of video games that can be played to make the most of your time in Toy Town. I didn’t try the video arcade games during our visit to Toy Town but I hit some of the redemption arcade machines even though I’m probably the klutziest person when it comes to estimating where the claw or crane should land to get a stuff toy. Well the thing about an adult playing this is we’re more patient and we stick to our mantra, “try and try until you succeed.” Unfortunately for me, it took me a few tries before I realize how hopeless I was on this kind of game. Haha! I had better luck at the whacker or hammer games. It’s such a good stress buster! And also the sports redemption games; I love the basketball machine!
4. Kiddie Rides
The good thing about amusement centers is that they have your family in mind. They have something for everyone! Like this kiddie rides that are available everywhere in Toy Town. They have all kinds of small animals and cars lined up outside the bigger rides like so that parents can entertain their smaller kids while looking after their bigger kids who are on the Fume Ride or Ocean Swing. Your toddlers will enjoy the chugging and bumping motions and feel like they’re on their own kind of road trip.
5. Customized/Personalized Gift Items Booth
Don’t you want to make something out of the special moments you enjoyed at Toy Town with your families and friends? You’ll be surprised to know that inside Toy Town is this kiosk that offers gift items which you can personalize with a photo or a text. They print them on t-shirts, mugs, pillows, and even phone cases! So if you’re looking to customize things, then this booth is for you.
Here’s a sweet surprise! You will have a chance to win free haircut vouchers for your kids! Post a photo of your kids on the Comment section of our link post in our Facebook page. Have your families and friends LIKE the comment where your kid’s photo is and the comment with the most number of likes will get free haircut vouchers from Toy Town! Visit our Facebook page!
I still get thrilled when visiting amusement centers because it brings back memories of my childhood and also, of the games and rides I used to play. I’m tempted to wish for time to turn back so I can become a kid again just enjoying my cotton candy and having cute haircuts from time to time (bangs anyone?). But with Toy Town open for everyone and just a drive away, it’s not so bad to become just a kid at heart nowadays. 🙂
