It’s no secret that I LOVE MILK TEAS! Every time we go to Lulu Hypermarket in Olaya, I always drop by Mr. Dainty on the second floor to get my milk tea fix. Mr. Dainty doesn’t have a lot of choices though but I’m fine with their Assam Black Milk Tea and their chewy tapioca pearls. I wished we have more milk tea places in Riyadh. Then a Pink Tarha reader messaged us and informed us of the presence of Booba in Riyadh. Booba? That’s quite a funny yet cool name. What is it?
Booba is a bubble tea company that originated in the United Arab Emirates with a growing fan base in its two locations in Dubai: Dubai Mall and JLT Metro Station. It aims to bring a variety of creative bubble teas that will bring new tastes and refreshing flavors in the beverage scene of any bustling city. We, the consumers, are free to customize our orders. The only problem that I had with the newly-opened branch in Riyadh is how far it is from our place. I’m glad for those who live in Exit 6. It took me quite a while before I visited Booba because it’s quite taxing to go to Exit 6 just for my milk tea.
It was after a filling dinner at Ocean Basket that I finally found myself in the same location of Booba. It’s inside the Panda Hypermarket in Al Alia Plaza, just a stone throw away from Ocean Basket. I’m so glad I finally visited it because I discovered a different world of milk teas, juice teas, yoghurt teas, and coffee! I was drawn to the colorful kiosk of Booba. The neon lights definitely got me and it complements the many colors of the juices and boba available in the kiosk. Drinks are from SR 13 above.
Boba is the tapioca balls found in the drinks. They look like bubbles in the beverage and they’re really chewy. It give a different dimension to your drink. In Booba, apart from the tapioca pearls they also offer a different kind of boba, the fruity kind. The boba contains fruit juices inside and when they burst in the mouth, they’re so refreshing! They have the following boba fruit flavors: strawberry, mango, lychee, green apple, and orange. If you’re not into boba, there’s the jelly to choose from. They also come in mango, strawberry, coffee, and pineapple flavors. You can combine the boba and the jelly for some flavor and texture frenzy in your beverage.
It’s the first time I also saw their machine that shakes their juices back and forth and it really goes fast after a while. I was smitten. Haha! In other bubble tea places, they do the shaking of the drink and ice manually but in this bubble tea place, they do it with a coolio machine. You can check out our Instagram to see a short video I took on how they do the Booba shake.
My drink of choice that night was Peach Green Tea with Lychee Boba. It’s really refreshingly good! It’s the right amount of sweetness and the the lychee bubbles really add fun to the experience. We also tried the Avocado Milk Tea and it doesn’t really taste like avocado. It’s still good though.
I’m excited to try everything in their promising menu including these snacks great for nibbling but that poses a problem because 1. I only drank one full glass of their juice and I feel really full already (what more more?) and 2. it’s just too darn faraway from my place. Please open up more branches!
