Beauty Bets: Fenty Beauty Picks

I’ve been a Rihanna fan since ‘Please Don’t Stop The Music’ and now, RiRi, has progressed to far more greater things that have smashed records and expectations. Long gone are the days when pop stars just come out with their own fragrances…nowadays, if you don’t have your own makeup line just yet, then you don’t have it made. Leave it to Rihanna to set the bar amongst her peers as her cosmetics line, Fenty Beauty received critical and mass acclaim since launching late last year. In a short amount of time, it has swept the world and all women (and men) of color by storm. Myself, included. Janelle and I got a bottle of the Pro Filt’R Soft Matte Foundation from our friend in Dubai and during my trip to the US recently, I also scored a few items to add to my Fenty Beauty stash.

Here’s a rundown on my thoughts after using the products:

Pro Filt’R Soft Matte Foundation, Shade 190

Swatching the 190 with my old Maybelline Fit Me 120.

The Pro Filt’R Soft Matte Foundation comes in 40 shades (a first in makeup line history) and has been applauded for accommodating literally all skin colors in the spectrum of the globe. When I first got my foundation from Dubai, I wasn’t sure if the 190 shade would suit me properly because I didn’t get a chance to swatch it before getting it. However, when I was in the US, I asked the ladies of Sephora myself and it turns out, it was just right for my skin tone since it oxidizes once applied to my skin. It comes in a glass container that gives it a luxe feel. The product itself is very liquid-y but not too runny. I would use 2 to 3 pumps of it to dab around my face. I have to say it does cover up the redness that I normally have in the morning in one layer. It also does dry nicely on the face and it blends well with my natural skin so it’s not obvious that I’m actually wearing foundation. That said, it is medium coverage only but it makes for daily wear even better. Since I have oily skin, using a soft matte type of foundation works for me.

Killawatt Duo Highlighter in Mean Baby and Hu$tla Baby.

Swatch of Hu$tla Baby.

Now I know, Trophy Wife is the most famous highlighter of this beauty line so why didn’t I buy it? Because I didn’t think it would go well with my skin tone. I’m like a hybrid of Asian and Spanish tones (not a clear cut morena) so I figured the harsh yellow tones of the Trophy Wife won’t work on me. Nonetheless, the Hu$tla Baby shade is giving me enough bling on my cheekbones for a special night out. It’s got a strong pigmentation so a small dab and stroke can go a long way.

STUNNA Lip Paint. Yasss!

Love the applicator tip.

Stunna lips from Riyadh!

I’ve been known to don a full red lipstick in my time and in fact, my husband says it’s one of the things that attracted him towards me. Haha! So it is without question that I HAD to buy Rihanna’s Stunna Lip Paint. Gorj, gorj, gorj packaging and I am in love with the round applicator as it makes it easier to maneuver around my lips from both the left and right side. Unlike with pointed applicators where it gets complicated once I get on my lips’ right side as I am right handed. At least with a rounded tip, the product can be evenly applied with ease. The shade also works on virtually all skin types as the promotions for it shows it being worn by women from different races. To apply it well, make sure you exfoliate your lips and get rid of any cracks first and use a base as well to maximize the pop of color. Start applying on your lower lip first because normally that’s when you get the most product and then swipe it across your lips and within the edges. You can search Youtube videos of experts on how they applied it. That’s what I did. 😉

As of the moment, Fenty Beauty is not sold in the stores of Sephora in Riyadh (only online). However, RiRi made a huge announcement on her Instagram page two days ago saying that Fenty Beauty will officially be in Sephora stores in Saudi Arabia on April 19, 2018! How exciting!!!

RiRi’s announcement!

Overall, I think Rihanna’s brand is going to stand the test of time. The inclusive range of items and the new products that she’s launched since have kept things exciting. Prices are generally reasonable for the value that you’re getting. Afterall, it wasn’t named as one of the Time’s Best Innovations of 2017 for nothing. You go, RiRi! We can’t wait to have you in Riyadh soon.
