The Bright Sides of Sunrise

These days, there’s a lot of changes going on in the country and we do have to tighten our belts for the ride. It’s no longer practical to spend a fortune on dining out every day. So what if we told you that there’s a place that gives you real value for your money for casual dining, quality food? You can find that at Sunrise Restaurant, Grill & Breakfast House.

We posted about this place about a month ago on our Facebook page and it went viral quickly. The enthusiasm for all-day breakfast meals at an affordable price was a common factor for many and with the range of menu items at Sunrise, it was a no-brainer. Located along Sulaimaniyah St. (before Riyadh Chinese Restaurant, map below), the restaurant may not be that spacious but it is an open dining area that can accommodate more or less up to 50 people in the Family Section. Just as their namesake suggests, it is like a house when you step in, so feel right at home. There were some issues regarding their opening hours at first but all of that has been sorted out now. They are now fully operational and ready to serve customers! So what did we have?

Looking at the menu, majority of their food revolves around breakfast items like omelettes, waffles, french toast and pancakes! But they also offer starters, pasta, burgers and even chicken/steak dishes. The difference is in the price range. See for yourself: (NOTE: As per the management, prices have been updated since April 12, 2018).

That’s a preview of the menu with the breakfast items, but let’s proceed to what we had that night:

Starter platter of Chicken Fingers and Cheese Poppers, 25SAR and 19SAR each (updated).

Chicken Taco Salad, 23SAR (updated)

Traditional chicken wings in our preferred sauces: Spicy and BBQ. 27SAR (updated)

We liked all of our starters. For me the best one was Chicken Taco Salad because it was really a full bowl that could easily be good for two people. If you’re a light eater, that can be a meal all on its own. The wings were fried well and there was enough sauce to keep it finger lickin’ good.

On to the burgers!

Mushroom Swiss Burger, 29SAR (updated)

Bacon Cheeseburger, 29SAR (updated)

Sunrise Cheeseburger, 25SAR (updated)

As far as their burgers go, again it’s good value for money. The meat was better than other casual dining burgers I’ve tried: meaty, dense and well-seasoned. There were enough veggies and cheese to balance the flavors of the meat and the bun is nice and toasted, although it can be difficult to hold the entire burger halfway through your bites because it gets teared down easily. My favorite was the Bacon Cheeseburger (because anything with bacon calls my name instantly).

Other items they made us try was the Mushroom Chicken Pasta (33SAR) and the Hot Beef Sandwich (29SAR), which is a nod to classic French Dip Sandwiches #offmenu.

At 33SAR, this plate is good for two!(updated)

Hot Beef Sandwich drenched in gravy!

Finally, don’t leave Sunrise without trying their actual breakfast items like the French Toast, Pancakes, Crepes and even Omelettes! For our visit, we treated them as desserts but you can have them in any order you wish.

Banana Caramel Toast for the win! <3

Other breakfast places haven’t gotten their French Toast and Pancake game right, but Sunrise hits a homerun with their selections. The pancakes and french toast are crusty enough on the edges and moist enough with every bite. The caramel sauce is not too sweet, just right…and for those who want to control the syrup factor, you can always request it on the side.

Sunrise Restaurant is definitely your best bet for value for money. With a big menu at affordable prices, it’s hard not to give it a try. The service is adequate and is mainly a family-run business. The husband manages the place, the wife handles their social media and two of the sons help out as service crew. I thought that’s pretty neat. So think about visiting it on your next food trip and enjoy their all-day breakfast menu! Don’t forget to stay on the bright side. 😉
