More Activities To Do In Riyadh

Hello Riyadhizens! We’re dropping by our website again for a once in a blue moon post. Haha. This time, we’re listing some activities that you can do in Riyadh that you may not know yet. Yes, the city has been bustling with activities ever since the Kingdom opened but the coronavirus pandemic hampered this progress as we were all advised to go on lockdown and stay home for the most part. Nowadays, we are living in a “new normal”… normal with just a lot of precautionary and preventive measures. Anyway, here are some activities you might be interested in:

1. Paragliding

Uhmn what? Seriously? YES, seriously. Powered paragliding, that is. Also known as paramotoring, powered paragliding is a form of ultralight aviation where the pilot has a back-mounted motor and a chute that provide enough thrust to take off using a paraglider. Some paramotors can sit 2 persons. Most paragliders are used for recreational activities in this side of the desert. You might have your safety concerns though and we understand. According to research all over the world, this activity is slightly safer than riding motorcycles and more dangerous than riding in cars. It’s not new in Riyadh though and during near winters, we see paragliders in the deserts so they probably have adequate experience in this.

This activity has picked up speed over the past few months. And yes, women can go biking and cycling too. So nothing’s stopping you from getting on that bike, except when you don’t know how to of course. Hehe. A few tour operators are offering biking in their itinerary but if you just want to do it in a rental bike and in your leisurely pace, then there are options for you too.

Want to shoot some arrows? It’s a good sport to release some stress eh? Haha. But of course, you aim it at the bullseye a few yards away from you. Archery has been used for hunting and combat but in this city, it’s for recreational activity. There are some small archery ranges in Riyadh but mostly for kids, like the ones you find in fairs and entertainment centers. If you want the arrows and bows for the big boys, then you will come at the right place. And they can also come to your place.

4. Tennis

Most huge hospitals and companies in Riyadh have tennis courts in their grounds that employees can use. Playing tennis has a lot of health benefits like improving metabolic function, lowering body fat, increasing bone density, lowering blood pressure, and strengthening muscles and flexibility. It’s quite the sport for a lot of expats. But what if you’re just starting and want to learn more? Look no further!

5. Horseback Riding

I have always been fascinated with equestrian. Fascinated but not enough for me to take the sports… we’ve always known that it’s the sport for the rich, or at least for those who can maintain the cost of training, horses, stables, etc. There are quite a few equestrian centers in Riyadh for those who want to learn horse riding, or at least try it. There are also tour agencies that include horseback riding in their itinerary just for leisure and recreation.
