Bowling Centers That Are Right Up Your Alley

Summer 2022 in Saudi Arabia has started! What? You thought it started last April already? Noooo. The “official” summer only started yesterday, June 21, 2022 so we still have a long way to go when it comes to experiencing the heat of the desert. We’re used to it by now and know our coping mechanisms already but still, it surprises us how hot RIyadh has become over the years with temps ranging from 50 degrees above. What an oven!

If you’re looking for things to do, of course you won’t be going outdoors. Indoor fun is the way to go! We gathered the bowling centers in Riyadh where you can take your family and friends and have an incredi-bowl time! Do you remember the time when the bowling centers in Riyadh were only the Universal Bowling Center and the Al Khozama Bowling Center? My father who was here in Saudi for 20+ years likes bowling and he even ordered a ball online for tournaments in Al Khozama years ago! Haha. Filipino bowling groups were always in Al Khozama. Sad to say, that bowling center is gone. However, it was replaced by many bowling centers now which are quite modern and trendy. It’s more about fun than competition or pwede din naman both.

YALLA! BOWLING is one of the most accessible bowling centers in Riyadh as most Vox Cinemas in the city have one attached to it. This bowling center is modern, sleek, and fun with a food shop to boot. It’s a great hang-out place for families and friends because of its lively ambiance and neon lights. The lanes are sleek too. The bowling center even have other activities like billiards and videoke rooms (depends on the branch). After bowling, you can also head to the cinemas.

WIFI BOWLING CENTER has a section for men and families/ladies and gets quite busy during the weekends. Apart from the 6 lanes for 10-pin bowling (a game is SR 35), they also have other varieties of activities like billiards, VR, and arcade games. Although it’s not as spacious compared to other bowling centers, Wifi Bowling is a complete entertainment center for all ages. They also have a lounge for ladies only.

BOB’S FAMOUS combines bowling and dining in one venue. It’s is one of the most sophisticated, modern, sleek bowling centers in Riyadh (although they could do with a little less red lighting lols) with its colorful street art ambiance, glowing neon lights, and techie lanes. Their food which are good for sharing also adds to the plus points of this place.

STRIKE 10 has the same operator as entertainment hub Sala City which lends its vibrant and funky theme to the bowling center. Strike 10 is known for its state-of-the-art lanes and automated scoring system which players can use to update their social media account. The ambiance of Strike 10 reminds me of the cinemas of Glorietta in Makati, Philippines. It’s also interesting to note that Strike 10 has branches in the same malls as Bob’s Famous. Kayo na bahala mamili (up to you to choose where to go).

GO BOWLING & LASER STRIKE has a super funky, cool vibe that transports players to the future. At least it feels that way. There’s music while you’re getting your strikes and spares. And the projection in each lane adds to the excitement; there’s fire, space, piano keys, and more. Apart from the bowling alley, Go Bowling has other activities that you and yours kids can enjoy like arcade games and laser tag.

MR. BOWLING is probably the most affordable bowling alley in this list (SR 25 per person). However, they only have 4 lanes working right now and is located in one of the busiest hubs in the city: Villagio Mall in Batha. It’s a good escape from the shopping hubris that goes around you. You can ask the staff to play your own music in their bluetooth speaker. They also have a set of VR and a table for billiards.

UNIVERSAL BOWLING CENTER is of course an oldie but still a goodie. Seasoned bowling players know this center by heart. It has seen better days but we can’t deny the allure of this retro-ish bowling center that has seen players battle it out with all their might and heart in tournaments and games. What it lacks in modern, advance fitting, it makes up for its wizened, experienced charm. Also has billiards and table tennis tables.

STRIKE BOWLING ALLEY is a bowling center in the most unlikely place: at the basement of the Ritz-Carlton Riyadh. You’ll bowl in between lush carpets and lanes with an old school vibe. It’s like bowling at a prestigious yet underground club you know? Haha. Of course, being in one of the most luxurious hotels in Riyadh, it’s pretty expensive to bowl here.

MODON FOR ENTERTAINMENT at the View Olaya is another classic bowling alley that you wouldn’t even know exists unless you find yourself in this mall at the corner of Olaya and King Fahd Road. It’s not exactly the hip and happening place it used to be. It has an 8-lane bowling alley with table tennis and billiards too. Refreshments might hard to come by though as the mall is pretty much empty.

So… there are so many options where to bowl now right? It’s one indoor activity you can do all-year-round (summer hot or not).
