About Us2

The Pink Tarha website is YOUR online lifestyle guide to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Contrary to popular belief, Saudi Arabia isn’t totally made up of heaps of sand or camels wandering the dessert. Riyadh, in particular, is a bustling metropolis and it is growing, as we speak. The Pink Tarha is our way of showing the world that hey, it’s not that bad here at all! In fact, it could be fun, enjoyable and certainly livable – especially for expats who come here to work. That is, if you only knew where to look. (Tip: Read our website!)

We started back at 2009 as a blog, chronicling our shopping sprees and food trips in the city as young 20-somethings in our own witty, light-hearted ways. Coming from communication and journalism backgrounds, we had a steady hand at writing. We did restaurant reviews, travel diaries, shopping alerts, guides and how-to’s, Top 5’s and many more! Little did we know, our readership got bigger and we realized that there were thousands of others like us eager to make the most out of their stay here in this foreign land and they too, were hungry for some good vibes and good times. We then took it upon ourselves to keep paving the (positive) way for all Riyadhizens to know about what’s hot and happening in the city and in Saudi Arabia in general. And ta-da! Here we are. Five years later, a brand spanking new website for your viewing pleasure.

So roam around, scroll through the categories. Click on something you fancy. Read on what interests you. And you just might find something that will make your day (or your life) in Riyadh, a little better and a little brighter.

*The Pink Tarha was founded by four Filipinas in 2009: Janelle (Sundrenched), Reina (Eyecandy), Jel (Shoegarfreeruby), and Maan (Maryhadalittlehump). Years flew by and Maan had moved on to another department and bid goodbye to The Pink Tarha in 2011. We welcomed new member Sheila (Sampaguita Pride) a few months after. She was writing a thesis on The Pink Tarha when an idea to invite her to be a part of the blog clicked. She then moved on to married life and flourished in her teaching career in 2015.  Jel left Saudi Arabia for good in October of 2015.

And so now here we are in 2016… we’re down to two: Janelle and Reina. Janelle has a degree in Journalism from the University of Santo Tomas while Reina has a degree in Communication Arts from the University of the Philippines – Los Baños. Yes, we have background on writing that’s why we really want an avenue to write here in Riyadh. The Pink Tarha is our hobby (not our work as some of you might think, haha!). But for blog purposes, we gave ourselves positions (even though it’s just the two of us, haha!): Janelle is the editor-in-chief of the blog and you can contact her at thepinktarha@gmail.com for editorial concerns. Reina is the managing editor in charge of collaborations. You can contact her at thepinktarha.ads@gmail.com.

Just as this city is growing, so are we. We’ve decided that it’s about time to take The Pink Tarha to the next level. Thanks to YOU – our readers. You believed in us and made The Pink Tarha into what it has become today.
